Updated October 2026 · for solo handymen and small crews
The best handyman apps in 2026
to win jobs, quote fast and get paid
Most “best handyman apps” lists mix up two different things: apps homeowners use to hire a handyman, and apps a handyman uses to run a business. This is the second kind — twelve apps grouped by the job they do in your week, with what each really costs in 2026.
For most solo handymen and 2–5 person crews in 2026: Google Business Profile and Nextdoor (free) to get found; Taskrabbit or Thumbtack for steady small jobs; an AI answering service like Rosie so calls from the ladder don’t go to voicemail; Handoff or magicplan to quote faster; Repair-CRM ($19/mo solo, $89/mo for up to 5 users) to schedule, document and invoice the work into QuickBooks Online; and the Home Depot app with Pro Xtra to track materials by job.
Prices are each vendor’s published list price on October 9, 2026 — verify before you subscribe. How we picked: apps a solo handyman or small crew can set up without IT help, actively updated in 2026, with public pricing where possible. Homeowner “hire a handyman” apps are left out on purpose.
What changed this year
Four changes handymen should know about in 2026
On Angi, homeowners pick the pro
HomeAdvisor’s pro side now runs as Angi Leads, and a pro only gets a lead when the homeowner chooses them. Fewer junk leads — but your profile, photos and reviews now decide whether you’re picked.
Thumbtack charges when customers reach out
You pay when a customer contacts you, or when you choose to contact them — not for every quote you send. Customers still compare several pros, so the fastest clear reply wins.
Google Verified, and LSAs move into Google Ads
Google merged its badges into one Google Verified badge (the $2,000 customer guarantee ended). From August 2026, Local Services Ads are moving into Google Ads as pay-per-lead campaigns.
Get found and get jobs
Free listings first, paid leads second — and compare paid sources on cost per booked job, not cost per lead.
1 · Local visibility · Free · ads pay per lead
Google Business Profile + Local Services Ads
The free listing that puts you on Google Maps and in “handyman near me” results — still the best 30 minutes a new handyman business can spend. List every service, set your service area, post real job photos, and ask every happy customer for a review: reviews are what move you up the map. Google no longer hosts free Business Profile websites, so link a simple site of your own.
Ready to pay for leads? Local Services Ads show above the regular ads with the Google Verified badge, and you pay per valid lead — a lead nobody else gets.
2 · Lead marketplace · Pay per lead
Thumbtack
Homeowners describe the job, see local pros with prices and reviews, and contact the ones they like. You pay for a lead when a customer contacts you, or when you choose to reach out to a job you’ve been shown — not for every quote you send. Handyman work is among the cheaper categories to buy, which makes Thumbtack a practical way to fill a thin week while your Google reviews grow.
3 · Task marketplace · $25 sign-up in some cities
Taskrabbit
Made for small, well-defined work: furniture assembly, TV mounting, shelves, minor repairs. You set an hourly rate per category and keep 100% of it plus tips; the client pays Taskrabbit’s service and Trust & Support fees on top. A one-time $25 registration fee applies in some cities, and you can opt into fixed-price tasks when they suit you.
4 · Lead generation · Pay per lead
Angi Leads (formerly HomeAdvisor)
HomeAdvisor’s pro side and Angi are one marketplace now, sold to pros as Angi Leads. The change that matters: since January 2025 a pro only receives a lead when the homeowner picks them from a list — no more automatic matching into jobs you’d never win. That makes your profile, photos, reviews and response time the whole game.
5 · Neighborhood referrals · Free (ads optional)
Nextdoor
“Can anyone recommend a handyman?” gets posted on Nextdoor every day. A free business page plus neighbors’ recommendations builds the kind of local reputation no ad budget buys. Answer helpfully, skip the hard sell, and share a before-and-after now and then.
What handyman leads cost in 2026
| Channel | How you pay | Is the lead yours alone? | Good to know |
|---|---|---|---|
| Google Business Profile | Free | Yes | Reviews and photos drive your map ranking |
| Nextdoor | Free (ads optional) | Yes | Neighbor recommendations; slow but sticky |
| Taskrabbit | $25 one-time sign-up in some cities; you keep 100% of your rate | Client books you directly | Client pays the platform fees on top of your rate |
| Thumbtack | Per lead, when a customer contacts you (or you reach out) | No — customers compare several pros | Handyman is one of the cheaper categories |
| Angi Leads | Per lead, plus any membership | Shared with the pros the homeowner picks | Homeowner choice since January 2025 |
| Google Local Services Ads | Per valid lead — about $53 on average across home services* | Yes | Google Verified badge; now inside Google Ads |
*SearchLight’s February 2026 benchmark of 888 home-service contractors. Thumbtack and Angi prices vary by market and job size, so divide what you spend by jobs actually booked.
Know your hourly number before you buy leads. A $30 lead is cheap if you bill $95 an hour and expensive at $45. Our handyman hourly rate guide walks through the math, and the free estimate template turns it into a clean quote.
Answer and quote fast
Speed wins handyman work: the first clear reply and the first clean quote usually get the job.
6 · AI answering service · From $49/mo
Rosie AI answering service
You can’t pick up from the top of a ladder, and a missed call usually becomes a job for whoever did. Rosie answers 24/7 in English and Spanish, takes the details and texts callers a booking link. The $49 plan includes 250 minutes a month; the $149 Scale plan books straight into your calendar and live-transfers the urgent calls. 7-day free trial. Alternatives: Goodcall, or Smith.ai if you want humans behind the AI.
7 · AI estimating · Free trial, then paid
Handoff
Walk the job, talk through what you see, and Handoff’s AI drafts an itemized estimate with materials and pricing that you edit and send. It’s built for remodelers and handymen; higher plans add AI site walkthroughs, voice transcription and estimating from PDFs. Reviewers love the speed and say the AI’s labor numbers still need your eye before you hit send.
8 · Measure & floor plans · Free version · paid plans
magicplan
Scan a room with your phone and get a floor plan with measurements, then turn it into a materials list and estimate. It saves the second trip for “how many square feet was that hallway?” and makes your quote look like it came from a much bigger company.
Do the work and get paid
Where most solo handymen quietly lose money — unbilled hours, forgotten materials, invoices sent a week late.
9 · Job management & invoicing · From $19/mo · our own product
Repair-CRM — run the jobs you win
The apps above get the phone ringing and the quote out. Repair-CRM runs the job itself: drag it onto your calendar (or your helper’s), and it lands on the phone with the address and notes. Clock the time, snap before-and-after photos, get the customer’s signature — then you (or whoever does the books) turn the finished job into a QuickBooks Online invoice in one click, with nothing retyped. Every customer and property keeps its full history, so the next “can you come back and look at that gate?” starts with exactly what you did last time.
$19/month solo; $89/month covers up to 5 users, flat and month-to-month. 4.9/5 on Capterra, listed in the QuickBooks App Store. Full disclosure: it’s ours — which is why it sits at #9, in the stage where it belongs, not at #1. Try it free for 14 days and judge for yourself.
The whole loop it closes, in 14 seconds:
Mrs. Alvarez
Fix fence gate + hang shelves
Hardware + 2h labor
10 · Accounting · From $38/mo
QuickBooks Online
Where the money side lives: invoices, payments, expenses, mileage and clean books at tax time. October 2026 list prices: Simple Start $38/month (1 user) and Essentials $85 (3 users). Essentials and higher went up for renewals from August 1, 2026, so check you’re on the tier you actually use. Connect a field app that sends finished jobs in as invoices and you stop typing everything twice.
Save time and money every day
Two free apps that pay you back on every supply run and every quote you write.
11 · Supplies & rewards · Free
The Home Depot app with Pro Xtra
Free Pro Xtra membership turns the Home Depot app into a business tool: purchase tracking for billing materials back to jobs, volume pricing, Paint Rewards (discounts up to 20% as you climb the tiers) and a Rewards Hub of partner offers that rotate quarterly — the July 2026 batch included fuel discounts at 7-Eleven and an AI answering trial. Check store stock before you drive. On team Lowe’s? MyLowe’s Pro Rewards plays the same role.
12 · AI assistant · Free tiers
ChatGPT, Gemini or Claude
The free office helper. Turn a rambling voice note into a clean scope of work, rewrite a quote so the customer understands it, reply to a bad review without losing your temper, translate for a Spanish-speaking customer, or check how many sheets of drywall a 12×14 room needs. Treat it like a sharp apprentice: double-check the math and anything code-related.
